ABOUT ELDERFLOWER FOUNDATION

Empowering People. Strengthening Communities.

Elderflower Foundation is a development organization that focuses on a capacity-building model for individuals, NGOs, and communities in underprivileged and marginalized areas of India.

The foundation was established by an India-centric investment family office led by Ishita Marwah, along with friends and colleagues who share her vision. Ishita holds a B.Sc. in business management and an MBA from the United Kingdom. She has actively participated in charitable work, volunteering with various NGOs in education, health care, women’s empowerment, and livelihood programs.

Ishita is also engaged with Smile Foundation India, an NGO that her family supports and founded. Smile Foundation India operates as a mother NGO, taking a life cycle approach to tackle social issues and inequalities. It provides resources to community-based organizations to help them serve their local communities.

EMPOWERING CHANGE WITH PURPOSE

Aid That Builds Futures

The foundation aims to bridge the gap between the haves and have-not’s, addressing the pervasive inequalities in social and economic environments. It draws on resources from family wealth and contributions from like-minded individuals and organizations. Ishita Marwah, along with the board of trustees, is backed by a team of advisory board members who have experience in public policy, philanthropy, law, finance, and academia.

The organization aims to distribute aid as both a charity and a purposeful philanthropic model. Its aid distribution strategy will involve direct programs or partnerships with NGOs and communities. The approach focuses on understanding social issues, problems, and delivery gaps while promoting holistic capacity building.

CORE PRINCIPLES

Nothing gets transformed in your life until your mind is transformed

Empowerment instead of dependency. Transparency, accountability, and productivity are key. All groups should be included. Sustainability over charity, resulting in capacity building and sustainability of individuals, NGOs, organizations, and communities through projects and programs carried out directly or through NGOs or community organizations.

Self-sufficiency and capacity building = Skills + Mindset + Direction + Resources + Support.

It’s not just about surviving. It’s about thriving with independence, confidence, purpose, and productivity.

Vision

The organization will focus on developing the skills of individuals and marginalized communities. We aim to bring them into the mainstream of society through education and learning. This includes both traditional methods and new technology-driven approaches, as well as healthcare, job skills training, livelihood programs, and raising social awareness. Our vision is to create resilient, self-sufficient individuals, organizations, and communities through customized training, financial support, and both personal and group development.

Mission

Elderflower Foundation will work to create changes that improve living standards and quality of life for poor and marginalized populations. This will be done through various programs and projects, both directly and by supporting and funding NGOs in related areas. The foundation will focus on human development, capacity building, and self-sufficiency. It will take a broader, more integrated approach to capacity building. This approach will address not only technical skills but also social, emotional, cultural, organizational, systemic, and environmental aspects.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Dripping Water Wears Through Stone

Elderflower Foundation consists of two words: elder and flower. We believe every person is a blooming flower, even if they start in tough circumstances. We want to act as elders to support these blooming flowers, helping them build their skills, independence, and ability to contribute.

Elderflower Foundation symbolizes transformation, renewal, and rebirth. It is often called the “tree of life.” Through capacity building, we are helping an individual or community become more independent, resilient, empowered, capable, and self-sufficient.

Japanese proverb: 「雨垂れ石を穿つ」(Amadare ishi wo ugatsu)

Meaning: Small, steady efforts can lead to significant change over time, just like long-term investment in people and communities.
